RED DEVON FEATURED IN THE SPRING ISSUE
OF PASSPORT MAGAZINE!
Local, Seasonal Nirvana
By Jack Coraggio

When it comes to The Red Devon, Nigel and Julia Widdowson’s two-year-old market, bar and restaurant in the center of Bangall, N.Y., there is a three-point system of protocol on which the owners insist.
“Everything served here has to be local, sustainable and seasonal foods,” said the eco-conscious Ms. Widdowson, a native of Texas. “We always try to meet all three of those, but certainly the most important is being sustainable. I won’t compromise there.”
Their litany of attributes should also include delicious, as the caliber of the restaurant can be discerned from simply reading the descriptions of some of the items on the local favorites menu on the Web site, www.reddevonrestaurant.com: Local artisan cheese plate with crostini and fruit compote [$14]; corn-crusted Wellfleet oysters with chopped Bibb salad, spicy citrus aioli and lemon vinaigrette [$14]; handmade mushroom-and-leek ravioli with baby vegetables, local greens and lemon [large, $24], and steak frites with grilled Wolfs Nick Farm New York strip streak, hand-cut French fries, garlic butter and a red wine and veal reduction [$34]. The dates for 2010 are set for March 15 through 28, 2010 so make your reservations now by calling us at 845-868-3175.
Click here to see our prix fixe dinner menu!
During the 14-day celebration, all participating restaurants will be serving three-course prix-fixe lunches for $20 and/or three-course dinners for $28 (excluding beverages, tax and gratuity).
Like many of the participating chefs, we’ll be featuring products from our favorite local farms and artisanal producers and we’ll also be offering wines, spirits and beverages produced in the Hudson Valley to complement your meal.
Come enjoy the great dining experiences in the Hudson River Valley.

SEPTEMBER 2009
Red Devon to participate in “A Trip to Bountiful, Garden & Eating Tour”

This 2nd annual, ten day, self-guided, driving tour, running from Sept. 12, – Sept. 21, 2009 will feature delicious, creative, and sustainable local food and products highlighting the best independent local farms and restaurants that Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, and Rensselaer Counties have to offer. Follow the trail of artisanal cheeses, vegetables and fruits, meats, breads, wines, beers and even local apple vodka as you work your way through the wonders of our family-owned farms, vineyards and orchards to the tables of tastiest fare. Dozens of restaurants spanning the three counties will also celebrate our fabulous local bounty by creating specialty dishes emphasizing locally-grown and harvested ingredients.
Pick your own fruits and veggies, visit dozens of farm stands and markets, stop into country stores for a vast array of honeys, maple syrups, baked goods and more. From alpaca farms to distilleries, corncakes to apple cider donuts, for the second time, this first-ever, cross-county collaboration will bring together the finest the Capital Region has to offer, providing a unique window into the heart of our local food and farming communities for the second year in a row!
We’re proud to be part of this event and hope you’ll visit us between September 12th – 21st to show your support for sustainable, locally grown food and our local farmers.
